VRS275 – Why You Should Be Using Pinterest For Your Vacation Rental with Jodi Bourne
Jodi Bourne is first and foremost a travel marketing expert. Bring in the knowledge of the vacation rental market and you have a priceless combination and I’m happy to have her back on the show to talk about how we can use Pinterest to capture the dreamers, the planners, and the bookers.
I’m an early adopter so have had a Pinterest account since it started in 2010. I’ve used it to plan renovations; collate information on building a house; collect recipes, and yes, to plan travel.
And from a look at Pinterest statistics, I’m one among millions.
Here are a few more of them from a recent Hootsuite blog post and some may surprise you:
- Pinterest drives 33 percent more traffic than Facebook, proportionately
- 90% of weekly Pinners use Pinterest to make purchase decisions
- Pinterest reaches 83 percent of US women aged 25-54
- 85 percent of women users use Pinterest to plan “life moments” (these include vacations)
- Pinterest users start planning twice as early as people who use other platforms.
There’s another twenty statistics in that post all of which point to Pinterest being a platform we should be paying more attention to.
Another Pinterest report claims that more than 40 million people are pinning travel ideas from Pinterest – finding new destinations, looking at what their friends have pinned and sharing their pins. All these are linking back to websites featuring those images.
Jodi suggests we need to look at Pinterest as a search engine rather than a social media platform, and since the OTAs aren’t paying it anywhere near as much attention as they give to Google, there is great opportunity for our brands to get noticed.
In this episode Jodi explains:
